With that being said, curcumin is poorly absorbed by the body, therefore, black pepper is added to activate and increase absorption.
Beetroot – contains dietary nitrates which is a natural chemical compound that converts into nitric oxide once it enters the body. When consumed regularly, nitric oxide helps widen blood vessels and increase blood flow and oxygen to active muscles.
Studies show that beetroot is a great source of folate, which helps control damage to blood vessels and lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke. Finally, beetroot is also high in an antioxidant called Betalains, which reduces inflammation and cellular oxidative stress.
Ginger – contains a potent bioactive compound called gingerol which provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research shows that consuming as little as 1-2 grams of ginger daily helps block inflammatory proteins and enzymes, and relieve inflammatory symptoms.

Turmeric Beetroot Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients for 1 serving | Total time: 5 minutes
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
- a pinch of black pepper
- 1 inch ginger root
- 1 cup of beetroot (cooked)
- 1/2 cup of almond milk (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt (plain, unsweetened)
- 1 teaspoon of honey (optional)

How To Make Turmeric Beetroot Smoothie
Peel the beetroot and slice it into chunks, put it in a pot and add 1 cup of water, cover it and let it begin to boil on high heat. As soon as it starts to boil, lower the heat and let it simmer until cooked through. This should take around 20 minutes.
Drain the liquid and set it aside to cool. Once cooled, transfer the beetroot into a freezer-safe zip-lock bag and freeze it overnight.
When you are ready to make your smoothie, add all of the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until extra smooth and creamy, pour into a glass and enjoy.
