Turmeric – contains an active compound called curcumin which blocks inflammatory molecules such as interleukins and reduces C-reactive protein. Studies show that curcumin as the same effect, if not more powerful as ibuprofen and help reduce joint pain, stiffness, and swelling.
With that being said, curcumin is poorly absorbed by the body, therefore, black pepper is added to activate and increase absorption.
Black Pepper – is added to to turmeric smoothies because it activates curcumin which is the main compound in turmeric. Just a small dash of black pepper can help your body absorb curcumin by 2000%.
Bananas – will help thicken your smoothies, boost your energy levels and provide you with essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and vitamins C & B6. Adding bananas to your smoothies will also increase your fiber and prebiotics, both of which improves digestion and healthy gut bacteria.
Almond Milk – adds a delicious almond flavor to your smoothies, plus it’s low in calories, great for those with lactose intolerance and packed with nutrients. This dairy-free milk is also low in calories, and contains a good amount of vitamin E, D & calcium.
Greek Yogurt – is one of my favorite ingredient to add bulk and protein to my smoothies. It is a great source of calcium, protein, and probiotics. Adding probiotic rich foods like Greek yogurt to your diet helps balance gut microbiome, strengthen the immune system, and enhance nutrient absorption.

Ingredients for 1 serving | Total time: 5 minutes
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
- a pinch of black pepper
- 1 medium banana (frozen)
- 1/2 cup of vanilla almond milk (unsweetened)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt (plain, unsweetened)
- 1 teaspoon of honey (optional)

Add the turmeric, banana, black pepper, almond milk, Greek yogurt, and honey into a high speed blender, blend for 60 seconds until smooth and creamy. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy right away.

How To Store Turmeric Vanilla Smoothie
I always recommend drinking your smoothies fresh out of the blender for maximum benefits. With that being said, you can store this smoothie in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Once you blend the smoothie, immediately pour it into an airtight glass bottle leaving room at the top for expansion.
Close the bottle tightly and shake vigorously before drinking. You can also freeze this smoothie in silicone ice tray but make sure to add in a splash of lemon juice while blending. Simply pop those bad boys in a blender with a little bit of milk and blend when you are ready to drink it.
Turmeric Vanilla Smoothie Variations
I found that a lot of people prefer smoothies without bananas and that’s okay but you will need a base for a creamy texture. If you want to make this turmeric vanilla smoothie without banana, add 1 scoop of protein powder with 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt and 1/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup of milk.
You can also add in chia or flax seeds, or other nuts like almonds, walnuts, peanuts, or macadamia nuts for healthy fats, protein, and bulk.
