How The Detox Cabbage Soup Works

You see, the body comes with a natural detoxification system set into place, the kidneys, liver, and digestive system are responsible for getting rid of toxins but sometimes it gets hard. Because as I mentioned, we eat a lot of junk foods which puts a load on these vital organs making them work harder.

By changing your diet and incorporating healthy fruits, soups, vegetables, and smoothies into your menu, you will be able to make your body function properly by removing toxins naturally. To detox your body, you will need to eat a lot of vitamin C-rich foods.

Because vitamin C is a natural antioxidant that helps protect our cells from free radicals and toxins. These are toxins we acquire daily when our body breaks down the foods we eat, from the environment, smoking, and from the sun. Now, this cabbage detox soup contains a LOT of vitamin C.

The cabbage, ghost peppers, and yellow bell peppers are extremely rich in vitamin C. Other detox ingredients such as ginger, turmeric, onion, and garlic have anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Detox Cabbage Soup Recipe

This detox cabbage soup recipe yields 3 servings and 430mg of vitamin C. The recommended vitamin C intake amount per day for women is 75 milligrams and 90 milligrams for women.

  • 1 small cabbage (shredded or chopped)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1-inch ginger root (sliced)
  • a pinch of turmeric
  • 4 cups of chicken stock or chicken broth
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 large very hot ghost pepper (chopped)
  • 1 large yellow bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

How To Make The Cabbage Soup

Start by heating the olive oil and fry the onions, garlic, and ghost pepper for 5 minutes on low heat, add in the bell peppers and cabbage and saute them for an extra 3-4 minutes on high heat. Stir in the tomato paste plus seasoning for 30 seconds before adding in the chicken stock and water.

Note that you can add some cooked shredded chicken breast to this recipe and serve it with 1 cooking spoonful of brown rice but it’s completely optional. It just makes the soup more filling and prevents you from consuming other sugary foods and drinks.

NOTE: You can add carrots, and broccoli to this cabbage soup and make it more powerful, I sometimes add in beef chunks as well. I love squeezing some fresh lemon juice over the soup before serving and it tastes amazing!
