What Makes This Avocado Mousse Healthy

Avocados are packed with healthy monosaturated fats which are liquid fats that help reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) and maintain HDL (good cholesterol. Avocados are also high in dietary fiber, potassium and over 20 types of vitamins and minerals.

Cocoa powder contains a good amount of flavanols which are antioxidants that help reduce inflammation, improve heart health, mood, and boost brain function. Bananas are a great source of magnesium, potassium, and they help boost energy levels.

Pure maple syrup contains trace amounts of essential minerals, antioxidants, and has a slightly lower glycemic index, which means it raises blood glucose levels more slowly than other types of sweeteners.

Ingredients for 2 servings | Total time: 10 minutes

  • 1 ripe banana (peeled)
  • 1 small ripe avocado (deseeded & scooped)
  • 1 teaspoon of maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons of pure cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

How To Make Avocado Banana Mousse

Simply add all of the ingredients above into a blender and blend for 5 minutes until extra smooth and creamy. I recommend using a hand mixer for this recipe if you have one, it will make the process a lot easier. However, if you don’t, make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender a few times while blending.

Once you’re done, transfer the mousse into a bowl and place it in the fridge for 10-20 minutes to cool before serving. It taste’s a lot better when chilled.

Storage

You can store this mousse in the fridge for up to 2 days, just make sure to cover it up with a cling film to prevent a hardened top layer. Although some people store this recipe longer (up to 5 days) I find that it loses it’s freshness and flavor when you do.

What to Serve With This Avocado Mousse

This healthy avocado banana chocolate mousse is delicious just as it is but you can get creative by garnishing it with some fresh fruits. If you have some fresh blueberries, strawberries, or even a few slices of bananas will do. I sometimes add toasted almonds and shredded coconut before serving and it makes a lot of difference.

Best Types Of Avocados For Mousse

There are many great types of avocados for making desserts but the top recommendation is Hass avocado. That’s because they have higher oil content and make desserts extra creamy. Just make sure you choose they are fully ripe and yield slightly when you give them a gentle squeeze.

Other good avocado options for desserts include the Lula, Gwen, and Brogden avocados because they are similar in texture and flavor to Hass avocados.
