Variations & Tips
Honey – if you don’t have maple syrup, you can use raw honey instead, it’ll give it the same amount of sweetness without the maple syrup flavor.
Peanut butter – you can add in a tablespoon of peanut butter for extra protein but that will increase your calorie and fat intake.
Chocolate – you can use unsweetened melted dark chocolate instead of cocoa powder but make sure to let the melted chocolate cool slightly before blending it with the cottage cheese.
Tips
Make sure to choose a good quality cottage cheese, I always use organic brands but my favorite is Alta Dena, I just love the taste.
Can You Use Low Fat Cottage Cheese For Ice Cream?
Yes you can use low-fat cottage cheese for ice cream but it will alter the texture and make your ice cream icier instead of creamier. However, adding a liquid sweetener and letting the ice cream thaw for about ten minutes after removing it from the freezer will help give it a creamier texture.
Is Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Healthier Than Regular Ice Cream?
Absolutely! Cottage cheese will provide you with enough protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals to keep you satiated longer. However, using other high sugar or high calorie ingredients will increase your sugar and calorie intake making it less healthy.
