This low calorie cherry cottage cheese ice cream comes together soo perfectly when blended with other ingredients. It’s truly comforting and great for a hot summer day. You can swap up the cherries for other frozen fruits and have this ice cream ready in just one hour.
If you love cottage cheese or cherries, you are going to enjoy the combination of tart, sweet, and salty flavors this ice cream provides. Since I found the viral Tiktok video on cottage cheese ice cream, I’ve been experimenting with low calorie versions and they are truly satisfying.
With that being said, I really want to give you a heads up, ice cream requires liquid sweeteners for softness and less ice crystals. When using low calorie liquid sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, agave, or liquid stevia, it alters the texture of the ice cream making it a bit harder to scoop plus more ice crystals.
Don’t worry though, simply letting the ice cream thaw for 10 minutes outside the fridge before scooping makes it all better. Also, although not as sweet as regular ice cream, it’s okay for curbing your sweet tooth.
Low Calorie Cherry Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients for 2 servings | Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes
- 2 cups of cottage cheese (low-fat)
- 1 cup of cherries (frozen – without seeds)
- 1 tablespoon of dried cherries (without seeds)
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (organic, I use Meridian foods)
- 1 teaspoon of brandy
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
How To Make Cherry Cottage Cheese Ice Cream
Add the cherries, cheese, maple syrup and vanilla extract into a high speed blender and blend until smooth without chunks. Continue blending if you think the texture doesn’t look like ice cream.
Next, transfer the ice cream from the blender into a bowl with a lid or a lined baking tray, mix in the dried cherries with a spatula, and cover with cling film.
Freeze for 1 hour and when you are ready to serve, let it sit for 10 minutes on the kitchen counter before scooping or else it’ll be too hard. Garnish with some fresh cherries and maple syrup(optional) and enjoy!

Since this is a low calorie ice cream recipe that does not contain enough liquid sweetener to keep it creamy, you can only store this for up to one week in the freezer. You also need to store it in a freezer-safe container with a tight lid to prevent ice crystals.
Variations & Tips
Condensed Milk – adding condensed milk will give this ice cream a creamier texture and make it taste like regular ice cream. However, it’ll increase your over all calorie and sugar intake.
Fruits – you can add frozen fruits like banana, mango, strawberries, avocado, blueberries, or any fleshy fruit to this ice cream but make sure you use frozen fruits to reduce the amount of liquid and ice crystals.
Protein Powder – if you want a high protein ice cream, add 2 scoops of protein powder to this ice cream. That said, I recommend 100% whey protein powder cause it’s healthier.
Nut Butter – you can also add a tablespoon of any nut butter you like. Almond butter or peanut butter goes great with this ice cream, however, similar to condensed milk, it will increase your caloric intake along with saturated fats.
Cottage Cheese Brand – choosing a good cottage cheese brand is important when making ice cream. If the cheese has too much liquid, your ice cream will end up icy. Note: full fat cottage cheese is ultimately best for ice cream but will increase your sodium, fat and calorie intake.
Maple Syrup – I recommend using organic maple syrup in your ice cream recipes because it is less dense and has way less calories.
