This blueberry cottage cheese ice cream is a delightful treat that comes together using 4 main ingredients. It’s low in calories and high in protein. Although not as sweet as regular ice cream, it’s an amazing dessert for those on a high protein, low calorie diet.
If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll notice that I’ve been making a lot of cottage cheese ice cream this past week. That’s because I’m trying to follow the trend of the viral cottage cheese ice cream on Tiktok and also find a way to incorporate more protein into my diet.
Just a heads up, this ice cream, although filling and healthy, is not your typical ice cream. It’s low in sugar, not as creamy, and forms ice crystals. There are two ways I found to combat the latter, use a touch of brandy or any alcohol you have, and stir the ice cream half-way through freezing.
As for the sweetness, you can drizzle a teaspoon of organic maple syrup over the ice cream before serving if that’s your thing. Note: organic maple syrup has way less calories than regular maple syrup.
Low Calorie Blueberry Cottage Cheese Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients for 2 servings | Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes
- 1 cup of blueberries (frozen)
- 2 cups of cottage cheese (low-fat)
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup (organic)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of brandy (optional but recommended)
How To Make Blueberry Cottage Cheese Ice Cream
Add the blueberries, cottage cheese, maple syrup, vanilla extract and brandy into a blender and blend on high speed for 2-3 minutes or until extra smooth and creamy. Make sure not to leave any chunks in there. Transfer your ice cream into a freezer-safe container and freeze for one hour.
Remove from the freezer and let it thaw for ten minutes before scooping into little bowls, garnish with some fresh blueberries and serve. Enjoy.

Variations and Tips
Condensed Milk – adding condensed milk will give this ice cream a creamier texture and make it taste like regular ice cream. However, it’ll increase your over all calorie and sugar intake so I recommend using honey if you don’t have maple syrup and want to stick to a lower calorie recipe.
Greek Yogurt – is another great substitute for cottage cheese in ice cream but it won’t give you the same amount of protein or taste, however, it’s a healthy alternative.
Fruits – you can add frozen fruits like banana, mango, cherry, strawberries, avocado, peach, or any fleshy fruit to this ice cream but make sure you use frozen fruits to reduce the amount of liquid and ice crystals.
Protein Powder – if you want a high protein ice cream, add 2 scoops of protein powder to this ice cream. That said, I recommend 100% whey protein powder cause it’s healthier.
Cottage Cheese Brand – choosing a good cottage cheese brand is important when making ice cream. If the cheese has too much liquid, your ice cream will end up icy.
Note: full fat cottage cheese is ultimately best for ice cream but will increase your sodium, fat and calorie intake.
Maple Syrup – I recommend using organic maple syrup in your ice cream recipes because it is less dense and has way less calories.
